We had a debt we
could not pay,
Yet still it grew
from day to day.
Then we heard
these words from heaven,
“My erring
child you are forgiven.”
Oh blessed day my
soul’s set free.
Gone are my fears
of penalty.
Gone too the
stain of sin’s disgrace,
To stand before
Him face to face.
I hear him say
while they revile,
“Father,
forgive this erring child.”
“They do
not know just what they do.”
His love was sent
to these men too.
If God forgives
so full and free,
Should it not be
for you and me?
To give someone a
touch of heaven,
And say to them,
“You are forgiven.”
