“SITTING DOWN THEY WATCHED HIM
THERE”
By Rev. Dean
Beaty 2/23/05
This was not new,
‘twas just one more.
Like all the
rest, a cross He bore.
Soon He would
die. They did not care.
So “sitting
down, they watched Him there.”
To them He was
like all the rest.
They heard the
crowd in cruel jest.
Their hate filled
words, they did not spare.
So “sitting
down, they watched Him there.”
But He did not
retaliate.
His words were
kind. He did not hate.
“Father,
forgive them,” was His prayer.
So “sitting
down, they watched Him there.”
Though it was
noon, it was dark as night.
All those nearby
were filled with fright.
They did not know
man’s sins He bare.
So “sitting
down, they watched Him there.”
“It is
finished.” These words He
cried.
And then He bowed
His head and died.
Just like the
rest? No, this was rare.
So “sitting
down, they watched him there.”
If you had been
there in that place,
And seen the
Savior face to face,
Who this man was,
you’re now aware.
Would you just
sit and watch Him there?
