THE GIVER
AND THE BEGGAR
By Dean Beaty
3/19/06
A man went to
town, seven coins in his purse.
A beggar he met
whose condition was worse.
He gave him six
coins and kept only one.
But there is much
more, I’ve only begun.
The beggar was
greedy and not satisfied.
He stole the
last coin from where it was tied.
How terribly
ungrateful, do I hear you say?
But what do we do
with every Lord’s day?
The Lord gives us
seven and asks only one.
Do we use what is
His for pleasure or fun?
Being ungrateful,
we live for our ease.
And use what is
God’s, however we please.
